THE LOVE OF ALLAH

Imaam Abu `Abdillah, Shamsuddin Muhammad, ibn Abu Bakr, ibn Ayyub, ibn Sa`d, ibn Hurayz, al-Jawziyyah, al-Hanbali mentioned ten causes that result in Allah's love for His slave and the slave's love for his Lord.

These ten are:
First, reciting the Qur'an while pondering over its meanings and what is meant by it.
Second, getting closer to Allah by performing voluntary deeds after completing obligatory deeds. This is as is stated in a Hadith Qudsi: "My slave continues getting closer to Me by performing voluntary deeds until I love him." (al-Bukhari)
Third, continual remembrance of Allah under all circumstances, with one’s tongue, heart and actions. The extent of one’s love of Allah is determined by this.
Fourth, giving precedence to what He loves over what you love when you are overtaken by your desires.
Fifth,
the heart being avid of Allah's Names, and Attributes and the heart roaming in that garden of knowledge

Sixth, observing Allah's kindness, goodness and bounties, both hidden and open.
Seventh, and this is the most wonderful, the heart being soft, subdued and meek before Allah.
Eighth, being alone with Allah during the time when the Lord descends during the last portion of the night while reading His Book and ending that by asking for forgiveness and repenting.
Ninth, sitting with the beloved and sincere, benefitting from the most fruitful of their speech. And not to speak unless speaking is more beneficial and you know that it will improve your state and be beneficial to others.
Tenth, remaining away from every cause that comes between the heart and Allah.
These ten causes take the lovers to the station of true love and bring them to their Beloved.

QUESTIONS IN THE LIFE OF A MUSLIM

What should we do about the differences?
Our reference is the Sharia'a, following the Book of Allah(Subhanna wa ta'ala)(the Quran) and the Sunnah of His Prophet(Sala Allahu alaihi  wa salam). Allah(Subhanna wa ta'ala) said in the Quran:

O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those of you who have authority and knowledgeAnd if you differ about a subject, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and the Day of Judgement, it is better and the right way. "(An Nisa,59)
Which will be the community saved on the day of Judgement?
The Prophet(Sala Allahu alihi wa salam) said:

"My nation will split into seventy-three groups, all deserve the fire except one. " Someone said: Messenger of Allah, which is this group? Replied, Those who cling to me and  my companions. "Narrated by Tirmidhi.
The truth and the guide are to follow the teachings of the Prophet and his companions and to refrain from all innovations in Islam.

What is the Meaning of La ilaha ila Allah ?
Deny that there is no god with the right and deserving to be worshiped except Allah. Saying that only Allah is the One God who deserves our worship and devotion.
Can we understand the Quran without recourse to the Sunnah?
It is forbidden to leave the Sunnah. Allah ordered us to follow the Sunnah in the Quran :
"The precepts that has sent the Messenger to you, respect it and deny how much He has forbidden."
                               (Al Hashr,7)
The Sunnah was revealed to explain the Qur'an. We can only access  to the details of religion through the Sunnah.
The Prophet (Sala Allahu alaihi wa salam) said:
"I was revealed the Qur'an and a similar knowledge (the Sunnah). I do not rule out that an ignorant man sitting on his couch says:"Meeting only, which orders the Quran, leaving only what it prohibited"
Narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud.

What is Ihsan?
The Prophet (Sala Allahu alaihi wa salam) has said in response to who asked about the Ihsan:
"Is that you worship Allah as if you see Him, because if you do not see him,  He sees you." Narrated by Muslim.
What are the rights of the companions of the Prophet?
Our obligation to the companions of the Prophet(Sala Allahu alaihi wa salam) is love them and beg  the pleasure of Allah (Subhanna wa ta'ala) upon them when we pronounce their names, saying: May Allah be pleased with them (Radia Allahu 'anhum).
We most honor them both in our hearts and with our words, spreading their virtues and noble deeds. Teaching  to all Muslims, not to mention their mistakes, and the differences that existed between them, for the companions of the prophet are human beings, and therefore it is normal to make mistakes and sins. They were not infallible but judged according to their best performance of the broad knowledge they had of the Qur'an and Sunnah.
Vied with each other to overcome, and the best of them were these ten, in descending order: Abu Bakr, Omar, Uthman, Ali, Talha, Az-Zubair, Abd al Rahman ibn Auf, Saad ibn Abu Uaqqás, Said ibn Zaid and Abu Ubaida ibn al Jarrah. The best after they, are immigrants and supporters among the Muslims who participated in the battle of Badr, then the rest of the Helpers and then the rest of the companions. The Prophet (Sala Allahu alaihi wa salam) said:

"Do not curse my Companions, for if any of you spend the equivalent of (the mountain of) Uhud (in Allah's cause), this would be equivalent to a handful or even half a handful that have spent one of my Companions."
                    Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim
And He also said:
"Whoever curses my companions, laid on him the curse of Allah, His Angels and all people."
                     Narrated by al-Tabaraani
What are the obligations to the authorities of the Muslims?
Muslims owe allegiance to their rulers and Muslim authorities as they pleased and what not. They should not revolt even if it is unfair. They should not curse or pray against it. Must beg to be enlightened by Allah to rule properly.
If the person ordered to disobey Allah, do not obey that order but continue to obey what is in accordance with obedience to Allah.
The Prophet(Sala Allahu alaihi wa salam) said:
"Listen and obey  the authority , Even if punished you or take your belongings, listen and obey. "

EVEN WORSE THAN THE MUSIC

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-Uthaymeen (rahimahu Allah) said:
“There has been a lot of talk about Islamic naasheeds. I have not heard them for a long time. When they first appeared, there was nothing wrong with them. There were no duffs, and they were performed in a manner that did not involve any fitnah (corruption), and they were not performed with the tunes of haraam (impermissible) songs. But then the nasheeds changed and we began to hear a rhythm that may have been aduff or it may have been something other than aduff, and they began to choose performers with beautiful and enchanting voices, then they changed further and began to be performed in the manner of haraam songs. Hence we began to feel uneasy about them, and unable to issue fatwas stating that they were permissible in all cases, or that they were forbiddenin all cases.
If they are free of the things that I have referred to,then they are permissible, but if they are accompanied by duff or performers are chosen who have beautiful and enchanting voices,or they are performed in the manner of indecent songs, then it is not permissible to listen to them.”  [Al-Sahwah al-Islamiyyah (p. 185)]
Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzan (hafidhahu Allah) said:
“As for that which is called Islamic nasheed, it hasbeen given more time and effort than it deserves, to such an extent that it has become an art form which takes up space in school curricula and school activities, and the recording companies record huge numbers of itto sell and distribute, and most houses are full of it, andmany young men and women listen to it, and it takes up a lot of their time, and it is listened to more thanrecordings of Qur’aan, Sunnah, lectures and useful lessons.” [Al-Bayaan li Akhta’ Ba’d al-Kuttaab (p. 342)]
Shaikh al-Albanee (rahimahu Allah) said:
“I remember very-well that when I was in Damascus, two years before I migrated here to Ammaan, some of the Muslim youth started to sing few nasheeds that had sound meanings, intending thereby to counteract the Sufi songs like the Busayri poems and others. They recorded these nasheeds on tapes but soon it was accompanied by beating the duff!
At first they used it in wedding parties on the basis that the duff is permissible in such parties, then the tapes became widespread and copies were made of them, and they started to be used in many homes. People began listening to them day and night, whether there was an occasion or not.  It became their way of relaxing. But that is only because of their whims and desires and their ignorance of the Shaytaan’s tricks, who has diverted them from paying attention to the Qur’aan and listening to it – let alone studying it! The Qur’aan (thus), became forsaken by them as it says in the verse, “The Messenger (Muhammad ) will say, “O my Lord! Verily, my people deserted this Qur’aan (neither listened to it nor acted on its laws and teachings).’” [Soorah al-Furqaan (25): 30]” [Tahreem Aalaat al-Tarb (p.181, 182)]
It is regrettable that some of those who appoint themselves to issue fatawa have reached such a level that they issues fatawa allowing adult women to perform nasheeds in front of men, and even on satellite channels in front of millions, and these female performers use musical instruments which are forbidden in the Sharee’ah but are permitted by these so-called muftis!
Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (rahimahu Allah) said:
“To sum up, what is well known in the Islamic religion is that the Prophet salAlahu alayhi wa salem did not prescribe for the righteous, devoted worshippers and ascetics of his ummah to gather to listen to poetic verses recited accompanied with clapping or the beating of a duff.
It is not permissible for anyone to deviate from following him salAlahu alayhi wa salem and following that which he salAlahu alayhi wa salem brought of the Book and Wisdom, whether that has to do with inward or outward matters, either for an ordinary man ora member of the elite. The Prophet granted concessions allowing some kinds of entertainment in weddings and the like, and he allowed women to beat the duff during weddings and other celebrations.
As for the men of his era, not one of them used to beat the duff or clap, rather it is proven in the Saheeh (al-Bukharee) that he (Sala Allahu alayhi wa salem)  said, “Clapping is for women, and tasbeeh is for men” and he cursed the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women.
Because singing, beating the duff and clapping are things that women do, the salaf used to call a man who did those things effeminate, and they called men who sang effeminate, and this is well known among their sayings.” [Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (11/565, 566)]
Shaykh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baaz (rahimahu Allah) said:
“Islamic nasheeds vary. If they are sound and contain nothing but calling people to what is good, and reminding them of what is good, and obedience to Allah and His Messenger, and calling people to defend their homelands against the plots of the enemy, and preparing to face the enemy and so on, there is nothing wrong with that. But if they are something other than that, and they promote sin and are performed before mixed audiences of men and women, or audiences in which women are uncovered in the presence of men, or any other evilaction, then it is not permissible to listen to them.”[Majmoo Fatawa ash-Shaykh Ibn Baaz (3/437)]
Shaykh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baaz (rahimahu Allah) also said:
“Islamic nasheeds are like poetry – if it is sound then it is sound and if there is anything objectionable in it then itis objectionable.
The conclusion is that you cannot pass one judgment on all types of nasheed, rather each should be examined on its own merits. There is nothing wrong with sound nasheeds, but nasheeds which contain anything objectionable or promote anything objectionable are objectionable and evil.” [Shareet As’ilah wa Ajwabah al-Jaami’ al-Kabeer (no. 90/A)]
The scholars of the Standing Committee for issuing Fatawa saidin a Fatwa:
“It is permissible for you to replace these songs with Islamic nasheeds which contain words of wisdom and exhortation and lessons, which promote keenness to follow Islam and invoke Islamic feelings, which put one off evil and the things that promote evil, and which motivate the one who “sings” them and the one who hears them to obey Allah and discourage them to disobey Him or transgress His limits; they make one keen to protect His sharee’ah and strive in struggle for His sake. But you should not take that as a habit which one persists in, rather that should be something that is done only sometimes, on special occasions such as weddings or when traveling for struggle against the enemy and so on, and when one feels low, in order to revive the spirit and motivate oneself to do good, or when one feels inclined towards evil, so listening to such nasheeds may ward that off.” [Fatawa Islamiyyah (4/533)]
Shaikh al-Albanee (rahimahu Allah) said:
“There may be another sin involved in that (i.e.,nasheeds), which is that they may be performed in the manner of immoral songs and performed according to the rules of eastern or western music which makes the listeners enjoy it and makes them dance and behave in a foolish manner.  So the aim becomes the tune and the enjoyment there of, and not nasheed per se. This is a new error, and it is an imitation of the disbelievers and immoral people.
That may lead to a further error, which is imitating them in turning away from the Qur’aan and forsaking it, and being included in the general meaning of the complaint of the Prophet (Sala Allahu alayhi wa salem ) as Allah says, “The Messenger (sala Allahu alayhi wa salem) will say, ‘O my Lord! Verily, my people deserted this Qur’aan (neither listened to it nor acted on its laws and teachings).’” [Soorah al-Furqaan (25): 30] [end quote from Tahreem Alaat at-Tarab (p. 181)]
Shaikh al-Albanee (rahimahu Allah) also said:
“If these nasheeds contain Islamic meanings and are not accompanied by any inst ruments such as the duff, drum and so on, then there is nothing wrong with them, but we must point out an important condition of their being permissible, which is that they should be free of anything that goes against sharee’ah, such as exaggeration and the like.
Then there is another condition, which is that they should not become a habit, because that distracts the listeners from reading Qur’aan which is encouraged in the Sunnah, and it also distracts them from seeking beneficial knowledge and calling people to Allah.” [Majallaat al-Asaalah (issue no. 2, 15 Jumaada al-Aakhirah 1413 AH)]

ALL THE MUSIC IS HARAM

Some say that music which does not arouse emotions is Halal (lawful); what is your opinion?
A: All types of music and musical instruments are Haram (prohibited), nothing is excluded, for it was authentically narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk [for men], the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments as lawful.

What is the ruling on listening to singing and music? I read a Hadith book that prohibits singing. A person told us that if you attend a concert of a group of singers, this might be Haram (prohibited) However, if you listen to them on cassette players, on television or the radio, it will not be Haram. We inquired
about the difference between both cases, and he said that the singers are heard and seen at the same time, whereas the other devices make you listen only, but you do not see anything.
Please advise, may Allah reward you.

A: Listening to music and singing, whether from singers or through recording devices is Haram, as the evidence on prohibition is general, and as both cases lead to distraction, Fitnah (temptation) and corruption.

What is the ruling on listening to songs?
A: Listening to songs including some kinds of music is Haram (prohibited), both for men and women, whether they are in their houses or elsewhere, such as in cars or in public and private gatherings. This is because this entails choosing and being inclined to participate in what Shari`ah (Islamic law) has prohibited. Allah (Exalted be He) says, And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allâh without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allâh, or the Verses of the Qur’ân) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).
The singing referred to in the question is a kind of idle talk. It is, thus, Fitnah (temptation) to the heart that attracts it to evil and distracts it from good. Even more, it wastes time idly and, thus, falls under the purport of "idle talk". Whoever sings or listens to such songs is classified among those who purchase idle talk to distract themselves or others from the Path of Allah. Allah has dispraised this act and threatened the doers with humiliating torture. Moreover, as the Qur'an generally prohibits singing and listening to songs, the Sunnah (whatever is reported from the Prophet) also supports this prohibition. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, Verily, among my Ummah (nation) there will be people who will deem as lawful Zina (premarital sexual intercourse and/or adultery), (wearing) silk (for men), (drinking) Khamr (intoxicant) and using musical instruments. And verily some people will stay near a high mountain; their shepherd will come to them with one of their herds in the evening, and the poor will come to them for a need, but they will say, ‘Return to us tomorrow.’ So Allah will destroy them by night and bring down upon them the high mountain, and He will transform others into apes and pigs to the Day of Resurrection. (Related by Al-Bukhari and other Imams of Hadith). Musical instruments refer to amusement and the instruments used in it, including singing and listening to songs. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) dispraised those who render as lawful, Zina, silk for men, Khamr, and musical instruments and listening to them. He included musical instruments among the other major sins listed and he threatened at the end of the Hadith those who commit these acts with torture. This proves that playing and listening to musical instruments is Haram. Regarding inattentive listening, such as when passing by stores or cars playing songs or when sitting in one's house and hearing songs coming out from neighbors' houses, this person is regarded as helpless and is, thus, not sinful as long as they are not inclined to what they hear. They should give advice and forbid Munkar (that which is unacceptable or disapproved of by Islamic law and Muslims of sound intellect) with wisdom and fair preaching. Furthermore, they should try hard as much as they can to get rid of this involuntary listening according to their means, for Allah does not burden a person beyond their ability.
